Healthy Snacks to Pack for School

Summer may be coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t have a ton to look forward to - there’s apple picking, pumpkin picking, sweater weather and so much more in our futures. But before we can get to enjoying all that, there’s one other thing we have to get through first - the beginning of the back-to-school season.

For children, this entails tasks such as preparing school supplies and finishing summer reading reports, and for parents, this includes organizing drop-off and pick-up schedules, as well as finding lunch and snack ideas for their kids to utilize throughout the week.

Today, we’re here to help with the latter - keep reading for some of our favorite healthy snacks for school.

Cereal

Whole grain cereal, to be exact. If you know that your children will have the time and resources to sit down and pour some in a bowl, then don’t forget to include a small carton of milk too - if not, dry cereal is just as good! To make things even tastier, pack a small bag of fruit that they can mix in.

Smoothies

Smoothies are the perfect choice if you know your children need help in the fiber department. Not to mention, it’s a great way to help your children get their daily servings of fruit! These are ideal since you can customize them however you’d like using your children’s favorite fruits and yogurts.

Muffins

Yes, muffins can be healthy too when you bake them with fruits and vegetables! Even if your children aren’t likely to eat blueberries on their own, we bet they’ll love a classic blueberry muffin - the same goes for bread too! If bananas aren’t your children’s favorite by themselves, try baking a loaf of banana bread and see how they react (we bet it’ll be a positive reaction that you get!).

Apple Crisp

Perfect for the back-to-school season as this is a delicious fall snack! While eating an apple by itself may seem rather unexciting, turning apples into apple crisp for your children will change their moods in no time! They’ll still get the same nutrients as if they were just eating an apple plain, and you can even be a bit more creative and throw some other fruits on top!

Cheese

Let’s face it - what kid doesn’t love cheese? Cheese is an excellent source of protein for children, so you can’t go wrong with cutting up a few cubes and sticking them in their lunch box. If you want to make their snack even more nutritional, consider pairing the cheese with a piece of fruit or two!

Knowing that sometimes your children won’t be eating their snacks on their own, here’s something else you might want to have handy - a fruit bouquet or other fruit arrangement! For example, these dipped strawberries are easy for your children to take in their backpacks and include a few servings so that they can share with their friends! And a bonus tip for you - if you have a child or two celebrating a birthday during the school year, sending them in with a fruit bouquet to celebrate is a healthy alternative to cookies and cupcakes, and we promise it’s just as delicious!
