Prep Time: 45 min

Yields: About 24 strawberries

Ingredients

For Chocolate Covered Strawberries

  • 16 oz package of strawberries
  • ½ lb of chocolate melting wafers
  • 4 oz white chocolate melting wafers

For Decorating Turkeys:

  • Yellow and red gel writers
    • Or yellow and red food dye
  • Black food gel writer
    • You can also use leftover melted chocolate
    • If you want to make life simpler, you can purchase sugar eyes

Supplies

  • Paper towels
  • Toothpicks
  • Double boiler
    • If you do not have a double boiler, no worries! All you will need is a small pot for the bottom, and a heat resistant bowl to fit over the top of the pot

Directions

  1. Wash strawberries and pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. To melt the chocolate, fill bottom of the double boiler (or pot) with water. Fill top of the double boiler (or bowl) with your chocolate wafers. Use a low set flame on the stove top and stir until the white chocolate is fully melted.
    • Note: do not boil the water beforehand!
  3. Use the green leafy stems of the strawberries to fully dip the strawberry into the melted chocolate. Place on plate to cool.
    • Note: keep the stems on! This will be your turkey’s feathers.
  4. Once the chocolate has hardened, it’s time to start decorating your turkeys! Follow same steps as above to melt the white chocolate.
    • If you are hand painting your turkeys like I did, section off the melted white chocolate into two parts in your bowl. One side we will mix red and yellow food dye (or gel writers) to make orange for the nose, and the white section will be for the eyes.
      • Note: If you are using the sugar eyes, you do not need to section the melted white chocolate.
  1. Take your melted white chocolate and dot two white circles above the turkey’s nose and gobble with a toothpick for they eyes. Once hardened, take black gel writer and make a small dot on the white for the pupil.
    • To make it easier, you can take a little melted chocolate and stick the sugar eyes on to the strawberries instead of painting them on.
  2. In the middle of your chocolate covered strawberries, take a toothpick and paint an upside down triangle with the orange dyed chocolate. This will be for the turkey’s nose
  3. Once you are done painting your triangles, add more red food dye (or gel writer) to the orange white chocolate. This will be for the turkeys gobble. With the red chocolate, take a toothpick and paint a line over the flat top line of the triangle and curve out like a backwards “S”. Your turkey gobble’s can be unique and painted any way you would like.

Now your turkeys are complete and ready to be “gobbled” up for all to enjoy!
